Battery Percentage (powered off) This screen will show up if a Mac is powered off regarding current battery charge. Connect to Power This is when the battery on a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro is drained to zero. Charging, please wait. This is when the Mac laptop is charging, but doesn’t have enough power to actually run. Firmware Password Lock If a firmware password lock is present on a device, this screen will show up if you attempt to boot into the boot picker or Recovery. Prohibitory Sign: This will appear if a Mac kernel is not able to detect the rootfs, or you are attempting to boot an unsupported macOS on your device. Question Mark (flashing) Folder This means no bootable partition detected. Target Disk Mode This screen will appear if your Mac is in Target Disk Mode. If it’s a laptop that’s not currently being charged, the battery icon would also appear. Internet Recovery / Slingshot Here’s the internet recovery screen when it is starting up. Martin Nobel
